Hi 4th Grade Families!

Your assignments for this extended time out of school will be to spend time learning on the Link Up! website.

Do your best to complete the assignments for each day below, and then send me an email at kjohnson@sau49.org telling me which part of the assignment was your favorite and WHY.

Music Class Day 1:

First, listen to and practice singing

• "Come to Play" 
• "Simple Gifts"

Next, practice playing the recorder version of "The New World Symphony" on page 12 of the Link Up section of your recorder book.  Don't forget about all those 1-2-JUMP!s we learned about a couple weeks ago!  Follow the tips below:

• Start by practicing in your book alone, using our 5-step method as you need
• Then, if you'd like to play it with the music, use this video and play the BOTTOM LINE each time.

Then, watch this short video about the 4 families of the orchestra.

Finally, explore the interactive game "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" (requires Flash player - do this on a computer/Chromebook)  Be sure to click "Local Game," which does not require you to log in.

Music Class Day 2:

First, listen to and practice singing

• "Ode to Joy"  and
• "Oye" - with the dance moves!  Practice singing AND dancing! 😊

Next, practice playing the recorder version of "The New World Symphony" on page 12 OR "Simple Gifts" on page 10 of the Link Up section of your recorder book.  Don't forget about all those 1-2-JUMP!s we learned about a couple weeks ago!  Follow the tips below:

• Start by practicing in your book alone, using our 5-step method as you need
• Then, if you'd like to play it with the music, use this video for "New World Symphony" or this video for Simple Gifts and play the BOTTOM LINE each time.

Then, read "The Firebird Story."

Finally, turn on this recording of the Firebird Finale, and while it plays, see if you can follow your way along the listening map next to the Firebird Story (above).  You'll want the story open in one tab and the music in another tab.

• "Come to Play"

• "Oye" - with the dance moves!  Practice singing AND dancing! 😊

Finally, take a look at this spread of all the orchestral instruments and see how many you can name without reading the name!
